div id="fb-root"> Backwood's Trapper
This gray fox was took in a set I call a cedar tree set. I know I am not the one to come up with it but I had never heard of it and one day on the line I seen a small cedar tree and made a set there like a scent post set. The next morning there was a gray fox in the trap. This set has worked good on gray fox, red fox, & bobcat for me.
I try to find a tree on the edge of a field or thick cover. I will put the set on the down wind side. The trap most of the time is about 2” to 4" away from the tree. I will blind the trap in very good. Leave no dirt spot.
I will take a call lure and put it up in the tree depending on the size it will be put on the top or in the middle. Thin at the bottom of the cedar about where the foxes nose will be I will put a small amount of lure to make him get up in there with his nose. He will work the set hard to find it and keep his feet moving over the trap.
Here is a video of the cedar tree set.
